Henry knew to expect a chill in the air, given the newly-christened Mossdeep Gym Leader's alleged proclivity toward Ice-type pokémon, but he had to admit that things were a little more brisk than even he had anticipated. He slides his hands into the pockets of his grey woollen peacoat meditatively as he enters the gym, casting an assessing glance about the room.

Eckart, for his part, would no doubt be as dispassionately amused about the environs here as anywhere else the pair had traveled; in Henry's experience, the Toxtricity only showed real interest when there was something to maim or pilfer. Still, as Henry's travels took him to a League-sponsored Gym as opposed to some mud-sodden wilderness - at least to begin with - the scientist had thought it best to leave his closest companion to stew in his pokéball a while yet.

Henry's eyebrows go up in surprise as Gigi comes into view, a surprised smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. Admittedly, he hadn't known what to expect with this particular challenge, something of a novelty for him, but it most certainly hadn't been her. "Georgette!"

He returns the hug warmly - or as warmly as he can manage, given his usual stiffness. One finger extends to push his spectacles up the bridge of his nose as he pauses to regard her with a mixture of relief and curiosity. "I am well, yes, thank you. I was in the area for a client, and thought I might see what the Gym Challenge was like. Congratulations are in order, I suppose - I had no idea!"

He observes the smaller woman as she retrieves the bag from the closet, a rueful twist marring the slow smile on his features. "As much as the next person, I fear. Still, I look forward to the challenge - I'm certain it will be one for the books, knowing you."

"Thank you, Henri," Georgette answers brightly, the smaller woman moving with entire too much animation for the chill of the local area.

She listens curiously as Henry describes his partial reason for being in the area, her head nodding in understanding. "I hope your job has gone well?" she murmurs, her tone warm as she laces her arm at Henry's elbow to draw him towards the door and outside.

"I hope so too," Georgette laughs out, her nose wrinkling playfully before she explains, her free hand patting the bag she just retrieved, "You will take this with you. It has a flare gun that you can use at any time and it will call off the challenge, no?" Miming the action with her free hand, she lifts her arm above her head as if firing the signal in question before continuing, "There is also a walkie-talkie. I will use that to give you directions."

Holding onto Henry a touch more firmly as she steps across a slick of ice, Georgette smiles up to him once more. "It can be dangerous out there, no? So be careful." As she speaks she angles Henry to a stop, her expression unchanging as she says brightly and with little warning, "Confuse ray!" A Froslass pops up from the snow, a hellish, chattering laugh spilling from the pokemon's maw before Henry his directly hit with the attack, sending snow and ice spraying into the air.

"Well enough," Henry demurs, accepting the bag and lifting it experimentally as though to gauge its weight. "A few interesting occurrences here and there, but work is work nonetheless.'

He follows Georgette from the gym, glancing about curiously as though surveying where, precisely, the trial is to begin. Despite his curiosity, he is utterly unprepared for the surprise attack by Gigi's Froslass, an aborted attempt to throw his arms up in front of him as though to shield himself from the blow all the reaction time he has before the Confuse Ray hits him, sending him staggering back.

Blinking erratically, he struggles to see through vision that is colored with wild spots, a sudden wave of dizziness nearly sending him tumbling over and saved only by his meager reflexes. "Eckart? Eck-" he stops mid-sentence, fighting down a retch. Is his laboratory being raided? Had he not been careful enough in his dealings? Did someone finally make the connection between any number of the crimes he'd committed in the past weeks to the otherwise unassuming scientist?

Insensate, he steels himself, adopting a firm stance to simply stay on his feet, and blinks steadily again, attempting to gain his bearings.

As Henry's senses slowly slot back into place, a tinny, bright voice filters over the walkie-talkie - Georgette's voice. "Good luck, Henri! Stay warm and dry." A disorienting landscape meets Henry's vision, muted greys, whites, and faint splashes of green making it difficult to pinpoint landmarks.

To add to the matter fat, wet flakes of snow begin to fall from the grey skies above, clinging to everything they touch before melting; too much time in this weather would leave anyone soaked to the bone and in danger of hypothermia in no time. Above, the grey clouds churn angrily, and a sudden, sharp gust of howling wind rips through the area, knocking snow and ice from trees to create a medley akin to shattering glass.

In response to Henry's call, the pokemon in question pops from his pokeball. The landscape is no more obvious to the Toxtricity as to which direction the pair should go but one thing is for certain - Eckart believes Henry should go to the east, while something deep in Henry's gut pulls him towards the west.

Eckart's arrival sends Henry slightly off-balance, though he recovers quickly, shaking his head clear of its fog as best as he can and taking in his surroundings with some slight trepidation. Unknown variables always served to unsettle him, and it seems this particular endeavor will feature more of them rather than less.

As he weighs the merits of which direction to proceed in, he finally settles on a soft, unbroken stretch of snow stretching to the west. A slow, tromping pace characterizes his initial progress in this direction, but he is stopped by a webbed hand tugging at the edge of his heavy coat. Eckart, unusually serious for once, regards Henry with hooded eyes before gesturing with his head toward the east.

"What?" he inquires, baffled. "No, that's got to be the way we arrived from, look at the pattern of snowfall. There wouldn't for a moment be something as obvious as old footprints guiding us to the checkpoint. Use your brain, would you?"

He scoffs, pulling free of Eckart's grip and continuing westward, though after a few more steps he slows, frowning bitterly from one particular thought as much as the biting cold beginning to creep in at the edge of his perception. He -had- been directly struck with a Confuse Ray, and if nothing else the phenomenon was noted for its infallible ability to impair judgement. Was he truly turned around?

Then again, Eckart hadn't been subject to the same attack...

Huffing a sigh, Henry turns about with some effort, kicking up loose snow with his boots as he stomps toward the Toxtricity, whose neutral expression slowly slips into a smug grin as his trainer walks past. Satisfied, he falls into step behind Henry, ambling along eastward to - it would seem - nowhere in particular.

Eckart merely grins wider, thumping Henry on the shoulder affectionately.

It seems Eckart's instincts are spot on, or at least fortuitous, as the terrain turns quite easy to traverse; the snow thins, the wet flakes from above lessen in the intensity of their fall, and the temperature almost seems a few degrees warmer than it previously was.

The walk is almost leisurely, though with little warning a Delibird jumps out from behind a snow-covered rock and beams broadly. The pokemon suddenly waves merrily and pulls off the sack from its shoulder. Rummaging through the bag, the Delibird pulls from it a little pouch, the sound of coins filling the air as the gift is shoved towards Henry.

With a self-satisfied nod, the Delibird turns on its heel and waddles back into the the brush, leaving Henry 25 pd richer for his troubles!

Henry draws his coat more tightly about him, the unseasonably cold weather finding him no more acclimated to it than when he first entered the area. Eckart offers scarcely little more comfort, though the fact that, after some distance, the effects of the cold begin to lessen even slightly has the Poison-type grinning a wide, smug smirk at his trainer's back.

After some time has passed, Henry pauses, stamping his boots in the snow to kick off some of the accumulated powder as he surveys his surroundings, finding scarcely any landmarks by which to identify his location. The Delibird popping out of a nearby drift takes him entirely by surprise, and he falls backward into the snow entirely with an undignified yelp, kicking up a spray of fine white powder. He regards the offered gift suspiciously, and Eckart rolls his eyes, accepting the package in his stead and giving it an experimental shake, revealing the jingle of coins within.

Clambering to his feet, Henry dusts himself off vigorously, taking the gift from Eckart and stowing it away in his bag. "I suppose we shall take what we can get, but awfully rude of the damned thing to appear like that. Five miles of nothing in any direction and it wants to hide in a damnable snowbank?"

He has the distinct sense that if Eckart could laugh, he would be doing so at this particular moment in time.
